October 2007—St.  Petersburg, Russia   A GOOD WORD FROM CAMP from Leif & Zhanya Camp

(Click on http://www.flickr.com/photos/stpaulmp/ to see photos of the Camp’s work and life.  This month’s are here.)

This month has been too busy--but I really wanted to get something to you all before next month starts, Advent and all the holidays (which will be busy themselves).  I have been too busy to write the usual letter—this happens a couple of times a year, so forgive me.

Prayer requests--this month and all its busy-ness has been stressful on my family, the kids' school, Zhanya changing jobs, etc., so keep us in prayer, pray for the Siberian pastors and deacons, pray for the District president Juha Saari and his family as he will have to go on furlough soon as well.  Pray for English service and those who attend and that we can grow as we begin our 4th year of worship together, pray for Olga schmidt as she has been volunteering as administrative assistant for Ingria's pro-life ministry, pray for all the Ingrian pastors and parishes as they try to endure the Russian winter.

Pictures:
Two pictures of our missionary seminar at the parish in Gatchina, a town outside of St. PetersburgMe, Pekka and Alexei setting up for the seminar, and then one of me presenting.  The theme was on parish growth and self-support.

The Bishop speaking at a seminar on Spiritual gifts held at the Koltushe parish.  Some members and leaders of the Koltushe parish were becoming disturbed at some of the negative influence of some of the Charismatic and Pentecostal teachings on this subject decided to organize this seminar to strengthen Lutheran pastors and parishioners in proper biblical understandings.

A picture of my leading a sing-a-long at an English language camp--this camp was organized by a secular organization, but my children and I were invited, and I was asked to help.  So I taught songs, a few folk songs and of course some Christian folk songs.

A picture of a mission presentation at English service--Ingria's Mission Sunday is always the third to last Sunday of the Church year.  Since I work on the Ingrian Missionary Committee I thought I would let those attending know a little about the Ingrian Missoin opportunities (English service also celebrates its third anniversary with the first Sunday in Advent).

This last month one of the members of the English service who teaches at International Christian Academy (formerly ICS) asked if I would lecture on the History of the Orthodox Church.  While I was there I looked into the possibility of what it would take for my children to attend there next year--tuition is 300 dollars a month a child, so it is not feasible, but I might be able to get a little discount if I teach something there (if there is something for me to teach).

Two pictures of Olga Schmidt at a conference of Presbyterian Churches held in Kiev.  She presented our pro-life materials while there (she was attending with her husband, Alexander, who although a staunch Lutheran pastor, is the dean of Students at a local Independent Presbyterian seminary in St. Petersburt).

Two pictures of the pastoral seminar in Omsk--the first is the group of pastors and presenters (the theme was Justification by Faith in Romans) after the closing worship.  The second is "in the upperroom" in the hostel at the local German Lutheran Brethren church where we were bunking—the majority of conversation, growing and learning actually happens

A picture of Pastor Fedor Tulinin, myself and Finnish Missionary Pastor Passi Guinin insulating the second floor of the garage at Pushkin--this is the sort of remodelling project a small short term group of volunteer missionaries could do.

Blessings,

Leif
