Lent has begun--today is my birthday, I am now worth 4 bits! This month has been a month of birthdays--Karl's on the 7th, the Bishop's on the 14th, and then mine. I haven't had a day off since January 10, so it is no small wonder that when transferring the pictures from my camera this month, I hit the delete button half way through, so lost half the pictures. Forgive me that and that I didn't have time to write the usual prayerletter. What pictures I have, prayer requests and a short little explanation of this months work I include here.
This month Zhanya officially took over the pro-life project, agreeing to a two month contract with the Church to put the project in order. After the two months (at the end of March) she will decide whether or not to extend her contract for the year. As the 3 years of funding end at the end of this year, we put together our budget and are revising our work plan, hoping to trim and save so we can extend the finances we have for two years and seek further support. Zhanya has many great ideas for the work, so please keep her in prayer. I had taken some pictures of how she has already organized the office, begun putting together the library, and so forth, but these are lost.
She also put up a small display of GoodNews
Journals with an invitation to pastors to contact me at the missionary
committee office if they are interested in leading Bible studies on any of
these themes. We are trying to make the most of this valuable
resource. There are two pictures below featuring GoodNews--one
I am giving a set of journals to the Deacon who heads the congregation in a
village close to the Estonian boarder (for his parish library). We also
used the journal as part of our annual winter youth camp in the
Also, my visit to Turyo this month went well, and we have decided that I need to come at least 2 Saturdays a month. Once a month to continue what I am doing with the youth--open biblical discussions on pro-life issues that concern youth (pre-marriage relationships and so forth). The second visit is to work closely to help develop the young leadership. We have also planned to do a short evangelism seminar during the annual voters meeting--that is on the 14th. So pray about this. Again--lost pictures.
Other things to pray about--the chaplaincy program of which
I am an advisor (as it is a project officially under the Missionary committee I
am also overseeing it from that angle). The official funding from Peace
officer Ministries has ended, so we are working on that as well. A recent
survey in
We are working on three groups coming this summer--planning has begun. We could also use some more groups. The three scheduled are coming to lead English camps, but there is also a need for groups to come and help with work projects--working with local members and helping to inspire in them a servant mentality.
I could list more work--but this gets boring. Pray for
Zhanya as she puts the prolife project in order, for
Karl and Nastya (who are really enjoying studying at
International Christian academy--and I thank those who have helped make that
possible), pray for me as I organize my schedule to have a day off, but also
that I can focus on each task that I need to fulfill so as to remain faithful
to God and those that so graciously support us. Pray about English
service, my work with the scouts, the doors that God is opening with youth ( I
have a meeting next week and another invitation to begin work in the village of
Hietamyaki--I don't know how much I can do). For wisdom, faith and strength...
In Christ,
