Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children! “Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind  Romans 12:2     (Godly wisdom motivates us to seek after things that are right and pure.)

WE ALL LOVE IT…  Cookies and punch after a big event really hit the spot, especially for the kids.  We’re looking for volunteers to serve a cookies and punch reception after the Spring Praise Celebration at 5:30 PM next Saturday, April 23.  This annual event is led by St. Paul’s Praise Team and band with the help of both children’s choirs from the school.  Please call Lisa Smith to volunteer for this much appreciated job.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

LET’S DO IT AGAIN.  Please contribute BATHROOM TISSUE to the Proviso Food Pantry as you did last year.  These items will be added to the food bags distributed weekly to the needy (these items are NOT available with food stamps).  Place your contribution in the container in the narthex on either dates April 30 -May 1, or May 7-8 as you enter the church.

SPRING IS IN THE AIR. St. Paul’s Landscaping Committee is getting ready to submit our second wave of orders for commemorative bricks that will be installed in the plaza just outside our main entrance.  During the month of April and until May 15, orders for these pavers will be accepted in the church office.  Please pick up an order form from the church office or the narthex, fill it out with the inscription of your choice, place it in an envelope marked “Landscaping” and return it to us with your payment enclosed.

A TASTE OF WALTHER.  Next Saturday, April 23, the gym and multi-purpose room at Walther Lutheran H.S. will be alive with the delicate aromas from the Taste of Walther.  This annual event celebrates the diversity of cultures present at the high school.  Featured will be African-American and Hispanic foods along with other cultural cuisine.  The event runs from 4 – 8 PM.  Everyone is welcome to enjoy this bounty.  For more information call 708/344-0404.

AN ELEPHANT THUNDERS BY, a lion crouches in the tall grass, and you’re standing on the vast savanna, gearing up for the adventure of a lifetime on a Serengeti Trek – where kids are WILD about God!  Mark your calendars for this year’s Vacation Bible School: Monday, June 27 through Friday, July 1,

At 6 PM.  All ages welcome.  Volunteer recruiting will take place April 24th  & May 1st .

THANKS TO ALL…for joining us last Sunday in the lunchroom for the best grilled hot dogs.  The event was sponsored by St. Paul’s Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  We received donations in the amount of $1,186.00 and Thrivent matched with $800.00 for a total of $1,986.00.  This will go towards the $4,000 piano purchased for the chapel. Again, THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS!

EVERY YEAR…2.1 million babies lose their lives to abortion.  That’s over 4,000 each day!  “Over Tea”, St. Paul’s pro-life group, would like to commemorate these lives lost by putting up individual crosses on our property.  And we need your help.  Please come on Sat., April 23 at 11 a.m.  We’ll meet in the church narthex.  Bring a hammer if you have one.  Many hands make light work so bring a friend or the whole family.  You may call Jen Knox at ext. 222 to let her know you’re coming.  If you’re not available on the 23rd you can help on Sun., May 1 to take the display down after the 9 a.m. service.

HIKE FOR LIFE!  On Saturday, May 7, we have the opportunity to support the ministry of Cariss Pregnancy Centers (formerly known as Care First), by joining their Hike for Life.  If you’d like to hike or sponsor another St. Paul hiker, see Lisa Smith after services the next two weeks.

ST. PAUL SCHOOL NEWS this week

THE PAPERBACK…was only a few pages long…contained no words…yet told the wonderful story of God’s Grace.  Page one was white…it stood for the perfect world God created for His children.  The second page was white and scribbled up…it represented our sins and the sins of the whole world.  The third page was red…it stood for the blood Jesus shed to take away those sins.  The fourth page was green…it mirrored our growth in Chrisitan love and our willingness to the wonderful story of the cross.  The fifth and final page was golden…it represented heaven and being able to spend all eternity with Jesus.  This was the message Pastor Issac Gyampadu, a missionary to Africa, shared with the children in chapel this past week.  This week’s chapel speaker will be Pastor Groll.

ST. PAUL IS…now accepting enrollment applications for the 2005-2006 school year.  If you are aware of individuals seeking both a Christian and academically solid education for their children, please have them call the school office to establish an enrollment appointment.  To offer financial benefits to families presently having their child(ren) at St. Paul, families will be awarded one month’s free tuition to be applied at the end of the 2005 – 2006 school year if they recommend a friend or neighbor to apply for enrollment and that child is subsequently enrolled and the family fulfills its school obligations.  Please encourage prospective parents to visit St. Paul online at www.stpaulmp.org.

GONE FOR A LONG DAY…As part of the Social Studies and Constitution curriculum, this Wednesday, 7th grade students will board and bus to visit various historic and governmental sites (i.e. New Salem Village, Old State Capitol Building, Lincoln’s home, Illinois State Museum, Lincoln’s Tomb, etc.) located in Springfield, IL.  The students will leave promptly at 6:00 a.m. and not return until 9:30.  Needless to say, the students are looking forward to an exciting educational day.

SPRING PRAISE FESTIVAL…This fantastic worship opportunity is set for Saturday, April 23rd, beginning at 5:30.  The children in both the Lower Grade Choir and Upper Grade Choir will be a part of this contemporary service.  So…mark your calendar…hope to see you there!
