Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MARK THE DATE.  Slide presentation by Chuck L., St. Paul Church – Cathedral, Museum, Art Gallery”, Sunday, June 17, 10:30 AM at the Adult Education Hour (after coffee hour).

O.W.L.S.  All Older Wiser Lutherans are welcome to attend the final gathering of the season until they meet again in September.  This is taking place at Del & Dorleen M.’s. Please contact Carla S. after June 4, to let her know whether you are attending so they can set up for the correct amount of people.  Please bring either a salad or dessert to pass.  Bring also a game of your choice to be played after lunch.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  Unlike the Rich Ruler who was unable to part with his wealth in order to give himself completely to Jesus (Luke 18:18-25), Christ gave up all the glories of Heaven so that He could give Himself completely to us.  Unlike the Rich Fool who hoarded his wealth, building bigger barns to store it all (Luke 12:13-21), Jesus emptied Himself and gave up everything for those He came to save.  “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for [our] sakes He became poor, so that [we] through His poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9).  Let us thank God for the gift of His son and seek His grace to give as he gave.

VBS Needs YOU!  We need help to get ready for an exciting celebration of Jesus’ love filled with amazing Bible adventures, unforgettable songs, memory-making crafts, and life-changing missions.  Welcome to Avalanche Ranch, a wild ride through God’s word!  Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 16th  20th, 6:00 – 8:45 PM.  And we can’t do it without you!  Check out the VBS bulletin board in the lunch room or go to www.stpaulmp.org/vbs to find out how you can help!  You can even sign up online!  Contact Lynette Welter to find out more.

MAKING A NAME…for themselves was the reason why the people of Babylon attempted to build the tower of Babel.  Built out of brick and not stone, this edifice was not designed to stand the test of time, but only designed to bring short-term glory to its builders.  Personal fame and recognition are not in God’s plan for us.  His plan…His will for us is to share the joy of forgiveness earned by his Son.  We don’t have to be a pastor or a teacher to share that joy.  No matter what our calling in life…an engineer, a lawyer, a nurse, a mechanic, a journalist, a student…we can share the joy of forgiveness with others.  This was the message Pastor Johnson shared with the children in chapel this past week.  This week’s closing chapel service will be held on Friday, June 8th, beginning at 8:45.  Please take this opportunity to join the children of your school at the final chapel service of the 2006 – 2007 school year.

GIVE THANKS TO GOD…We recognize and give thanks to God for two very dedicated and faithful servants…last year Frieda Zemke concluded 20 years of service at St. Paul, while Sharon Boos finished her 10th year at St. Paul.  The gifts and talents they brought and continue to bring in service to their Lord at this place are beyond measure.  We give thanks to God for their ministry and pray that he will continue to bless the fruits of their servanthood.

IT MAY SEEM HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT…the 2006 - 2007 school year will come to an end on Friday, June 8th.  As a result, the final records' day of the year is set for Thursday, June 7th. School will not be in session, but the school office will be open.

STUDENT RECOGNITION…will take place following Friday’s 8:45 chapel service.  Students will be recognized for achievement, involvement, and service activities throughout the school year.  Recognition will be given for choir and band participation, athletics and physical achievement, assistance and ushering in chapel, assistance in the library, scholarship, and the principal’s award, to name several.  Once again, you are cordially invited to attend this end-of-the-year program.

GRADUATION SERVICE…This year’s graduation service will be held on Friday evening, June 8th, beginning at 7:30.  The guest speaker will be Rev. Dan Gilbert, President of the Northern Illinois District and a member of St. Paul.  Again, you are invited to attend.

JUNE MEANS SUMMER…SUMMER MEANS BBQ…BBQ MEANS MARKET DAY…Your grill is waiting…Baby Back Ribs (finger-licking good in your favorite sauce)…Ranch Steaks (rare, medium rare, or well done…you make the call)…Steakpatties topped off with a slice of cheese.  No matter what your meal plans are, you can’t go wrong by ordering from Market Day.  Market Day order forms are located in the narthex of the church and in the hallway between the church and the cafeteria.  Orders are due on Tuesday, June 5th, and the pickup date is Thursday, June 14th.  This is the last order until September.  So, just pick up a pencil and place your order today.  THANKS FOR SHOPPING MARKET DAY!!!

ORDER FROM INVENTORY…Although individual Manna orders have stopped for the summer, you may still order from inventory and reduce your child’s tuition.  Inventory includes the following cards:

BP Gas ($50), Burger King ($10), CVS Pharmacy ($10), Dominicks ($25), Exxon ($10), JCPenney ($25), Jewel ($10, $25, $100), Kohl’s ($25), Marathon ($25), Panera ($10), Shell Gas ($25), Speedway Gas ($25), Starbucks ($10), Ultra Foods ($20), & Wendy’s ($10).  If you wish to purchase Manna cards, just see Doug or Gail Grebasch on Sunday morning.

MAY NEWSLETTER ITEMS:

As the Newsletter is very cumbersome to duplicate online, a few important items from the most recent issue are included here.  We will endeavor to keep them up to date.

PASTOR JOHNSON’S MAY LETTER:

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42- 47, ESV
