Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  “Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

PASTOR JOHNSON  will be attending the Lutheran School of Theology in the city for the next 3 weeks.

O.W.L.S.  All Older Wiser Lutherans are welcome to attend the final gathering of the season this coming Wednesday, June 13, until they meet again in September.  This is taking place at Del & Dorleen M.’s. Please contact Carla S. to let her know whether you are attending so they can set up for the correct amount of people.  Please bring either a salad or dessert to pass.  Bring also a game of your choice to be played after lunch.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  John K. Galbraith wrote, “Money ranks with love as man’s greatest joy.  And it ranks with death as his greatest source of anxiety.”  Money has the potential to control our thoughts and our decision- making process.  The apostle Paul expressed some keen insight when he wrote, “The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10).  Money is not dangerous, but evil flows from the love of money.  “One eager to get rich will not go unpunished” (Proverbs 28:20).  If we love money, our view of life will be affected, and we will suffer many griefs.

THE UKANDU YOUTH GROUP WILL BE USING OUR FACILITIES THE WEEK OF

JUNE 18th  THROUGH THE 22nd.

L.W.M.L.  The Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly magazine, summer 2007 edition is in the narthex. Make sure to take a copy with you in your way out, after the worship service.

MARK THE DATE.  Slide presentation by Chuck Laabs, “St. Paul Church – Cathedral, Museum, Art Gallery”, next Sunday, June 17, 10:30 AM at the Adult Education Hour (after coffee hour).

CARE CORPS.  St. Paul Church – Cathedral, Museum, Art Gallery, slide presentation by Chuck Laabs, next Sunday, June 17, during Adult Education hour – after coffee hour.  Come and see what rich art offerings are located in our church building – learn a little about our history – and gain more knowledge of the rich symbolism of our edifice.

ST. PAUL SCHOOL NEWS this week

Click here for school newsletter page

YOU CAN’T SEE IT…YOU CAN FEEL IT, BUT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT…The answer is air.  Try to see how long you can hold your breath (don’t do this during church)…use your watch.  Were you able to make it to 30 seconds, a minute, or perhaps even longer?  Regardless of the time…you finally took a deep breath.  Even if you were to go scuba diving…you would have to carry a tank of air on your back.  The more we exert ourselves, the more air we need to sustain the activity.   Just as we need air…so much more do we need our heavenly Father.  No matter where we are or what we are doing, we need to rely on Him.  The more difficult the challenge, the more we need His guidance.  Summer vacation not withstanding…we need to remain close to Him.  God won’t take a vacation from us…don’t take a vacation from Him.

STUDENT RECOGNITION…Just prior to summer vacation, the children were recognized for their achievements throughout the school year.  Recognition was given for choir and band participation, athletics and physical achievement, assistance and ushering in chapel, assistance in the library, scholarship, and the principal’s award, to name several.

JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN & KINDERGARTEN CLOSING PROGRAM… was held on Wednesday, June 6th.   This program was enjoyed by both parents and children.  A special word of thanks goes to their teachers, Jessi Schneider, and Audrey Brown-Williams, for making this year so “special’ for their little ones.

GRADUATION SERVICE…This year’s graduation service was held on Friday evening, June 8th, beginning at 7:30.  The guest speaker was Rev. Dan Gilbert, President of the Northern Illinois District and a member of St. Paul.  He gave a fantastic address…Thanks, Pastor Gilbert

ORDER FROM INVENTORY…Although individual Manna orders have stopped for the summer, you may still order from inventory and reduce your child’s tuition.  Inventory includes the following cards:  BP Gas ($50), Burger King ($10), CVS Pharmacy ($10), Dominicks ($25), Exxon ($10), JCPenney ($25), Jewel ($25, $100), Kohl’s ($25), Marathon ($25), Panera ($10), Shell Gas ($25), Speedway Gas ($25), Starbucks ($10), Ultra Foods ($20), & Wendy’s ($10).  If you wish to purchase Manna cards, just see Doug or Gail Grebasch on Sunday morning.

Have a blessed and safe summer vacation!
