Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

BEGINNING JUNE 18, Pastor Johnson will be attending the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago for the next 3 weeks.  However in case of emergency you can still contact him at his mobil phone, or call the church office.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  Unlike the Rich ruler who was unable to part with his wealth in order to give himself completely to Jesus (Luke 18:18-25), Christ gave up all the glories of heaven so that he could give Himself completely to us.  Unlike the Rich Fool who hoarded his wealth, building bigger barns to store it all (Luke 112:13-21), Jesus emptied Himself and gave up everything for those He came to save.  “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for [our] sakes He became poor, so that [we] through His poverty might become rich” (2 Corinthians 8:9). Let us thank God for the gift of His Son and seek His grace to give as He gave.

REMINDER.  If you have an alarm code to access the building, please make sure to lock doors and set the alarm if you are the last person leaving the building.

TEACHING POSITION….Rebecca Hayes has accepted a teaching position in the public school system.  As a result, a middle grade teaching position is available. If you are aware of a qualified individual seeking a call for this position, please have them contact Doug Grebasch at the school office (708-343-5000, ext. 230).  Candidate interviews will begin this week.

TODAY.  “ST. PAUL CHURCH – CATHEDRAL, MUSEUM, ART GALLERYSlide presentation by Chuck Laabs at the Adult Education Hour at 10:30, after coffee.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

L.W.M.L.  The Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly magazine, summer 2007 edition is in the narthex. Make sure to take a copy with you in your way out, after the worship service.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, thank you to all the picnic volunteer workers!

There is much “behind the scenes” preliminary work so vital to making the event happen successfully.  Items need to be ordered and either picked up or delivered.  Tables, chairs, tents, and other equipment need to be put into the right “pew” at the right time.  Brats have to be cooked and beverages chilled.

Special thanks are due this year to John W., Chris W., Robert and Audrey W., Mary M., Henry L., Wayne L., and Dee W. for their work on Saturday morning and before church on Sunday.

Then there were all the people, too numerous to mention, who gave of their time during the picnic—bringing and setting out food, selling tickets, grilling brats and hotdogs, serving beverages and pop corn, running the games for children, supervising the space walk and dunk tank, helping with the bingo game, getting dunked!  We can’t forget those who so willingly helped with the clean-up, such a necessary part of any event.

Contributions towards expenses and prizes came from John F., Barb K., Pat M., Mayor Ron Serpico, Jamie S., Jane P., the Altar Guild, and a few anonymous donors.  Thanks to their generosity we met the expenses of the rented equipment , food, and beverages, and had prizes to award for games, bingo, and the drawings.

So THANK YOU to all who made the picnic possible – including all of you who attended the picnic!

And a very special THANK YOU TO GOD WHO GAVE US SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY OF PERFECT WEATHER!!..(Laura Latzke, Picnic Chairperson).

SHAWLS…Women have been crocheting and knitting and making Prayer Shawls.  We now have enough to give.  Marlene Groll, our Parish Nurse, will take them to shut-ins, new Mothers, and others that she feels may benefit from the gift of a shawl. We have prepared forms for you to request a shawl for someone that you feel will need and benefit from the prayers of their friends.   Please look for the yellow Prayer Shawl Request Form in the narthex.

VBS is for kids ages 3 (and potty-trained) to those who have completed 5th grade.

Anyone who has completed 6th grade or older can volunteer to help with VBS!

Registration forms are in the Narthex and on the VBS Bulletin Board.

Needed:  Volunteers!

Wahoo!  The Lord has answered our prayers for Station Leaders!  We still need lots of help though!  Some of those stations need assistants and we need lots of crew leaders for elementary and preschool crews.  NOT AVAILABLE VBS WEEK?  Join us on July 7 and or 14 for decorating and set up.  Please help me out and fill out a Volunteer Registration Form and return it to the office or go to WWW.stpaulmp.org/VBS and register to volunteer online.  This is a HUGE time saver.  Any questions, just call or email me, Lynette Welter.

Needed:  Supplies!

If you wish to donate supplies for VBS check out the master list on the VBS bulletin board in the lunch room (copy below).  Check back frequently as items may be added as we get closer to the date.  In addition to the items on the list, we can always use:  Pens, paper, crayons, washable markers, permanent markers, glue sticks, glue, tape, paper towels, western themed decorations, saddles, undecorated Christmas trees, cowboy hats, empty wrapping paper tubes, Cardboard tubes from carpeting or upholstery fabric, hula hoops, cinder blocks, etc.  Contact Lynette Welter if you are unsure about any item.  If you wish to loan an item, please mark or tag it so we can return it to you easily.

Needed:  Kids!

Grab a few registration forms from the Narthex or VBS bulletin board and share them with your neighbors, your friends, your kids friends, local business people, whomever you know who might know a kid.  Let’s spread the word that God is Awesome!

Needed:  Funds!

We are blessed to be able to provide an exciting and rewarding Vacation Bible School for our children and the children in our neighborhood.  Because Vacation Bible School is a mission outreach into our community, there will be no set charge for students who attend.  About half of the cost of VBS is covered through the church budget; the rest is dependent on voluntary contributions from members like you.  Please prayerfully consider making a monetary donation to VBS so that we may reach as many kids as possible with the message of Jesus love.  Whether it’s just one dollar or one hundred, it will make a difference in the lives of the kids who attend.  Please place donations in an envelope clearly marked “VBS” or include this form and place in the offering basket or bring to the church office.  (Note:  writing “VBS” in the “memo” line of your check will not guarantee it will go to VBS.  Please include a note.)  Thank you and God bless you.
