Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  “Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

INSTALLATION SERVICE.  The members of Jehovah El Buen Pastor Lutheran Church invite our congregation members to the installation service for Dr. Eric Moeller, as their pastor, next Sunday, August 5, at 3:00 PM. He and his wife, Irma, have served as missionaries with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in Panama. Reception will follow in the church’s fellowship hall.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  In Luke 12:21, Jesus predicted disappointment for those who are not “rich toward God.  Have you wondered what it means to be “rich toward God”?  Certainly, we are rich toward God when we see everything as a gift from Him.  Those who are rich toward God are givers rather than takers.  By grace, we freely receive, and we freely give.  Through faith, we are empowered to express God’s love and are being rich toward Him as we love our neighbors.  Those who are rich toward God will seek first His righteousness and do His will.

AUGUST NEWSLETTER ITEMS:

As the Newsletter is very cumbersome to duplicate online, a few important items from the most recent issue are included here.  We will endeavor to keep them up to date.

PASTOR JOHNSON’S MONTHLY LETTER:

From the DCE Intern

And they took hold of [the Apostle Paul] and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? For you bring some strange things to our ears. We wish to know therefore what these things mean.”  —Acts 17:19-20

Paul’s preaching in the midst of the Areopagus (an area historians call “Mars Hill”) is not what we might call typical preaching. It was an interactive presentation of God’s Word. Paul was free to talk about their idols—especially “the monument to an unknown God” and use it as a segue into the Gospel.

Paul starts with creation and builds to the resurrection of Jesus. The crowd is free to interact with Paul. They are free to call his teachings strange. They are free to mock him. But through it all, some believe the Gospel and join Christ’s Church (v. 34).

We bear the name of St. Paul. Wouldn’t it be great to have a similar forum for our community? Wouldn’t it be awesome to see God’s Word go out to a culture full of false idols? Doesn’t our culture need a place where they can question, interact, and even mock the foolishness of the Gospel? And it is OK! “For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men” (1 Cor. 1:25).

Our DCE, Chelci, some lay leaders, our youth, and myself hope to provide such a forum for our community. Our target is not just t
