Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  “Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  God loves both the rich and the poor.  However, it is difficult for the rich to love the Lord because they can so easily become absorbed in the things that they possess.  Jesus warned that wealth can be highly dangerous.  He told how difficult it was for the rich to be saved when He said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!  Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God!” (Luke 18:24-25).  God doesn’t condemn wealth.  The warning is about the attitude that an abundance of money and possessions can cause.  Paul wrote, “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.  Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs  (1 Tim. 6:10).

A BIG THANK-YOU to those who unloaded the desks and chairs this past week: Steve B., Sharon B., Ron E., Doug G., Kevin K., Hank & Laura L., Wayne L., Jane P., Chris W., Angela Z..  WE STILL NEED TO ASSEMBLE the desks, so any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!  Please call Jane (ext. 247) to let her know you are helping.

ALL CHOIR MEMBERS:  Adult Choir rehearsals will resume on Thursday, September 6th.  Return & new members are welcome.  Questions?  Please talk to Jeff Kiel after the Sunday worship service.

BEARS’ GAMES. Mars Hill: A Forum For 'Em

mars hillFollowing Paul’s example of witnessing to the gentiles on Mars Hill in Acts 17, a service our church would like to offer is the opportunity for searching students and community members to express their views on life and religion.  We want to know our community’s answer to the question Jesus posed to His disciples in Matthew 16:13-17 - Who do people say that the Son of Man is?  We want to have an open place where people feel comfortable expressing their own views of the world, whether different or similar to our own Christian worldview.  As we allow people to express Who they say the Son of Man is, we pray that the Father reveals His very real self to them and maybe someday, they will be able to answer with Peter and ourselves saying, "You are the Christ, the son of the living God."  If you would care to join us in this endeavor to outreach to the students and community around us, please pray:

  • for the students and the community, that God will work in people's hearts that they might honestly examine themselves and then be open to hear His truth
  • for the forum, that God will bring the people in whom He is working
  • for the teachers, that God will give them humility to openly hear others' views, discernment to know when it is necessary to speak, and words that are His when they are necessary.

We would like to come together as an outreach-oriented congregation to pray about using this type of ministry to reach our community, so please mark your calendars for a Forum meeting
