Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

ST. PAUL SCHOOL NEWS this week

THE HAT WAS OLD…weather-beaten, and worn.  Its brim was faded and stained.  The logo was forever embossed on the front.  The cleaners couldn’t help…even the most expert tailor could not restore the hat.  There was absolutely no way the hat could be made to look new again.  It had to be replaced.  The same holds true for us.  We have been beaten and worn by sin.  Our souls are stained by our uncountable wrongs.  It doesn’t matter how much we donate to charity or how many good deeds we perform, in God’s eyes we are sinners.  But Jesus took away our old hat…our hat of sins, and gave us a brand-new hat.  The logo on this hat is the letter “C”…No, it doesn’t stand for the Chicago Bears or the Chicago Cubs or even the Chicago White Sox.  The “C” stands for Christian.  When our heavenly Father sees us with our new “C” hat, He counts us as forgiven and made new through His Son.  This was the message Pastor Haney, from the district office, shared with the children in chapel this past week.  Under the guidance of Jessi Pederson, our kindergarten teacher, this week’s service will be presented by student chapel leaders.

WOW…WHAT AN EXCITING CEREMONY…This past Wednesday, St. Paul held its ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground.  Thanks and recognition were given to Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, Project Fit America, and Sylvia Behrens for making this event possible.  Guest speakers included Arturo Mota, Trustee of the Village of Melrose Park; the members of the Baumann family, our children’s dance and tumbling instructors; and Reed Sander, education executive for the N.I.D. of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.  Mr. John Morgan, President of Gottlieb, on behalf of the hospital, accepted a recognition plaque thanking the hospital for the donation of the playground.  Sylvia Behrens was recognized for her most generous bequest to St. Paul.  Without this bequest, the playground would not have become a reality.  Sylvia truly loved her church and the school children.  She never missed a children’s Christmas service.  You would always find her in the front row of every school entertainment, clapping ever so loudly for the children.  It was the appearance of Benny the Bull that excited both the students and the adults.  Roaring up on his motorbike, spraying some of th
