Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

BAKE AUCTION THANKS!  “Howdy St. Paul!  I want to thank you all for an amazing bake auction and I look forward to the exciting prospect of a mission trip with the students in June.  I got so many voicemails and text messages from excited youth on my way back from the wedding that I could feel the excitement myself!  I tried to tell my Dad that the cherry pie I made for him was worth $400, but he didn’t believe me.  I guess it’s a St. Paul thing!  Thank you again, St. Paul.  Mission trip, here we come!  Anyone interested in hearing about our prospective mission trip in June, please make sure that you are at the Advent dinner December 12th.  I will be presenting the necessary information on that evening.  All youth interested, please make sure you are there, and I need adult chaperones to join us as well, so if you are even the slightest bit interested, please come to see if it is feasible for you to join us that week!  Chelci.”

FROM PASTOR JOHNSON.  “If you are in the hospital or are in need of pastoral care, please notify Maria in the church office.  If it is an emergency, please call my mobile phone (in printed copy of chimes).  Please don’t hesitate to call me at any hour if it is important; I keep the phone with me at all times.  If the matter is important enough to think about calling a pastor, by all means call me.  Please do not think you will disturb me or I will think the matter unimportant.  Thanks!”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

YOUTH GROUP.  This is a notice from the 5th Street staff to all the families of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders out there.  There will be no 5th Street on Tuesday nights between Thanksgiving and the New Year.  This is so that families are not overwhelmed with evening activities during Advent and the New Year Holiday.  We encourage you to join us for our Wednesday evening Advent services and also to not stress during the holidays!  Let it be a time of rejoicing, relaxing, and rest, not the all-too-usual stress-out time!  We will resume 5th Street Tuesday, January 8th, at 5:30pm.  Thank you for the opportunity to serve your kids and have a great Advent!

Fan into Flame…......Fall 2007

Beginning with the Ministry Fair this Fall on October 14th, we began a seven week journey revisiting and fanning into flame the Mission of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  The sermon series will focus in on key aspects of our mission….beginning with you and me.  Following are the two remaining Sundays where we will continue talking about topics as broad as World Evangelization and as specific as learning how to share our faith.  Please join us for these important weeks as we pray and work to “fan into flame the gift of God” has entrusted to us as individuals and as Christ’s Church.

PROVISO PANTRY ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE.  Our Annual Food Drive, sponsored by the Care Corps, will be held on the weekends of November 24 & 25, and December 1 & 2.  This year we are asking for CANNED FRUIT as these are generally not available through the Chicago Food Depository for the Pantry.  Please bring your contribution of Canned Fruit to the church (narthex or lunchroom) to help provide for the needy in our area.  Thank you for your continued support of this worthy cause!  Supported by your Care Corps for our communities.

PORTALS OF PRAYER, the daily devotional booklet offered by St. Paul for all adults to use on a daily basis, is available in the narthex for 50 cents.  The booklet is published quarterly and is a handy pocket-sized edition.  The Care Corps also orders some large print editions for those who need a larger size.  Please enjoy these worthwhile daily devotion booklets often as you grow in your faith and study God’s Word along with these daily devotions.
