Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

FROM PASTOR JOHNSON.  “If you are in the hospital or are in need of pastoral care, please notify Maria in the church office.  If it is an emergency, please call my mobile phone (in printed copy of chimes).  Please don’t hesitate to call me at any hour if it is important; I keep the phone with me at all times.  If the matter is important enough to think about calling a pastor, by all means call me.  Please do not think you will disturb me or I will think the matter unimportant.  Thanks!”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops” (Proverbs 3:9).  Do we carry out God’s commands as He gives them, or do we modify His Word to suit our preferences or our time?  If we truly love God and are grateful for all His blessings, we will not hesitate to do what He asks of us.  By waiting, we show that something or someone is in competition with Him.  Isn’t that someone usually ourselves?

O.W.L.S.  The February event of this group will be a trip to Rolling Meadows on February 13th, to attend OPERA IN FOCUS.  The program is Pops At The Puppet Opera, which features a collection of timeless songs from classic moments in cinema, done of course by puppets.  More details will be forthcoming but Carla needs to make reservations by January 30th.  Cost is $11.00 for the program. We will also be eating lunch. Please reserve your place with Carla S., along with your $11.00 payment.  Again all are welcome and rides are available.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS.   5th Street started back up this past Tuesday, January 15th!  Due to scheduling issues, it will take place the first Tuesday of every month for this semester, and will still take place during Lent and Easter.  The next 5th Street will be the Tuesday before Lent begins, February 5th!

Ø       Don’t forget to use the GoodSearch website to raise money for our youth group! www.goodsearch.com and enter “St. Paul Lutheran ChurchMelrose Park” in the charity line!  We are slowly but surely making money and it’s awesome!

Mark your calendars for a place to take all that Spring cleaning junk you find – Saturday, April 5th, we will have a church-wide rummage sale!  Come get rid of your unwanted space-takers and find things you need!  All proceeds will go to the youth group’s Appalachia mission trip.  Call Chelci about storing items if you want to bring them in before March or April.

St. Paul Youth Partnering with PADS for homeless ministry!  For the remainder of the school year, our very own youth group are going to be partners with PADS as they serve the homeless of the West Suburbs.  The 3rd Thursday of every month, we are assigned to help set up the Thursday night shelter, which is First United Methodist in Oak Park.  We will meet here at St. Paul at 6:00pm, drive over to the shelter to be there at 6:30pm.  There we will be setting up beds and checking people in when the doors open at 7:30.  PADS has informed us that they welcome adult participation as well, so please, consider joining us!  Our first shift is Thursday, February 21.

SPECIAL CONCERT.   St. John Lutheran Church & School announce a special concert All Things New, presented by Mr. Wayne O’Quin, teaching fellow at Julliard School of Music, pianist and composer, next Sunday, January 27.  Mr. O’Quin will be playing favorite hymns and contemporary choruses.  A freewill donation will be taken.
