Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

You may also enjoy a soup supper together at 6:00 PM.  Come and worship!

LENTEN DINNERS have been planned for February 6th and 13th.  We are hopping to offer meals each  Wednesday, before the 7:00 PM worship service, but we need volunteers, otherwise we will not be able to serve any.  If you would like to provide a Lenten dinner, please contact John or Joan Fiene at 708-562-9324

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.  Twice in Psalm 24, the gates are commanded to lift up their heads.  Why?  So that the King of Glory may come in.  During this Advent Season, we are reminded of just who it was who came to Earth, born of a woman in a lowly stable.  He is the King of Glory!  He is the One we honor and proclaim!  He is the One due our allegiance and our service.  Open your gates!  Let the King of Glory come in!

SAVE THE DATE of Sunday, March 30 for Mission Sunday Potluck.  Rev. Keith Haney, one of the new mission planters for the Northern Illinois District, will be the guest preacher and the speaker at the noon potluck.  More details will be given closer to the date.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

O.W.L.S. The February event of this group will be a trip to Rolling Meadows on Feb.13th  to attend OPERA IN FOCUS.  The program is Pops at The Puppet Opera, which features a collection of timeless songs from classic moments in cinema, done of course by puppets.  More details will be forthcoming but Carla needs to make reservations by January 30th.  Cost is $11.00 for the program. We will also be eating lunch. Please reserve your place with Carla S., along with your $11.00 payment. Again all are welcome and rides are available.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS.  The next 5th St. will be Tuesday, February 5th from 5:00pm – whenever.  We are hoping to see a movie, so each student will need approximately 7 or 8 dollars.  If there are no appropriate ones in the theaters at appropriate times, we will watch one here or in my apartment!  I will have pick-up times ready for you when you drop your student off.  Please drop your student off at 5 rather than 5:30 so that we have more movie choices!

~The Supernova group, which is 7-12 grades, is volunteering at the West Suburban PADS Homeless shelter every 3rd Thursday of the remaining months until school ends.  Please, consider joining us!  The next time we will go will be Thursday, February 21st.  Meet at St. Paul at 6:00 pm!

~We leave for camp in 2 weeks!

~I will be out of the office January 28-January 30th, as all the interns must return to Concordia for 3 days of classes.  I will return Thursday, January 31st, so please, feel free to leave me messages with any questions you may have!

~Saturday, April 5th will be the youth group’s Spring Cleaning Rummage Sale!  What is utter junk to one person may be another’s treasure, so bring all your old things taking up space in your house.

ARE YOU A “CRAFTER”?  would you be interested in helping make Chrismons for use on our St. Paul Christmas tree?  (Chrismons are Christian symbol ornaments made primarily with pearls and gold beads.)  contact Laura Latzke if you would like to help in this project, 708-345-6685.  Also, if you would like to help defray the cost of materials, please make your contribution via the church office.

BOOKLET/PAMPHLET.  The Lenten season is fast approaching.  To retrieve a copy of the Lutheran Hour Ministries Lenten Devotion booklet, just log onto the internet site www.projectconnection.org to download a copy to your printer.  The 2008 booklet is titled “Uncostumary Love”.  When reaching the site, click on Lent 2008, and then click on (to your left) printable files for your church and follow directions.  Also, please read the new booklet “Parenting Families: Practical Strategies for Family Life” on display in the rack located in the narthex.  Two more booklets on parenting families will appear at future dates.
