Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

SUNDAY SCHOOL.   In Sunday School today the children learned how each of us is like the lame beggar as we stand before God (Acts 3). Yet through the means of grace, God’s Word and Sacraments, God bestows on us what Christ accomplished on the cross: forgiveness of sins. In your family discussions, talk about what it means to have the “forgiveness of sins.”

**Next Sunday, April 27th,  is Consecration Sunday**

FROM PASTOR JOHNSON.  “If you are in the hospital or are in need of pastoral care, please notify Maria in the church office.  If it is an emergency, please call my mobile phone (in printed copy of chimes).  Please don’t hesitate to call me at any hour if it is important; I keep the phone with me at all times.  If the matter is important enough to think about calling a pastor, by all means call me.  Please do not think you will disturb me or I will think the matter unimportant.  Thanks!”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.   Knowing that God is the Creator and Provider of all things motivates us to worship Him through our faithful stewardship.  As faithful stewards, we acknowledge God as the source and owner of everything.  We are merely managers or caretakers of His property that is on loan to us.  In our faithful stewardship, we seek to use our lives and blessings according to His will.  We understand that our main purpose is to serve and glorify Him.  We seek God’s wisdom and strength to fulfill our stewardship tasks, and we are aware of our need to be responsible and accountable.  The reward for our faithfulness will come from hearing God say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:23).

ST. PAUL SCHOOL NEWS this week

Click here for school newsletter page

I BOUGHT YOU A…candy bar.  I doubt it…prove it: show me the candy bar.  I doubled your allowance.  I doubt it…prove it: show me the money.  I’ll get you into Disney World.  I doubt it…prove it: show me the admission ticket.  Have you ever doubted what someone said or promised?  My guess is that the answer is “yes.”  Thomas, despite the fact that he spent three years with Jesus, would not believe the words of the other disciples that Jesus had risen from the dead.  He doubted.  It wasn’t until he saw the hands and side of his Savior that his doubt was cast away.  The open tomb…our Lord’s resurrection, is the proof of our salvation.  There is never a doubt that Jesus earned heaven for each of us.  This was the message Ollie Hemmann shared with the children in chapel this past week.  This week’s chapel speaker will be Doug Grebasch.

LUTHERAN EDUCATION CONVOCATION…This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the faculty will be attending the L.E.A. Convocation in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The keynote speaker will be the noted author and educator, R. Reed Lessing.  The convocation sectional topics vary from the arts to computer education.  This professional forum is designed to give every educator the opportunity to ‘bring something’ to the classroom and the children.  As a result of the convocation, school will not be in session on Thursday and Friday.

SOMETHING ELSE TO READ…Given the dates of the L.E.A. Convocation, there will not be a Crusaders’ Adventures in next week’s Chimes.  (Perhaps you might wish to read the Cubs or, if all else fails, the Sox box scores.)

YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORKSt. Paul received documentation from the Illinois State Board of Education approving the funding of $5,769 towards the purchase of new social studies textbooks for the students in Kg. through the 6th grade.  GREAT GOING, SPRINGFIELD!

ALTHOUGH IT MAY SEEM HARD TO…believe, the 2007 - 2008 school year is rapidly coming to a close.  This means it’s time to prepare for the next school year.  Part of this preparation includes defining next year’s enrollment.  Since St. Paul already has had numerous inquiries for the next school year, if you have friends, neighbors, or relatives considering sending their children to St. Paul, have them call the school office as soon as possible to establish an application appointment.

EXCITING…is only one word to describe the outdoor education experience that awaits the 8th graders next week.  On Monday, April 28th, the 8th grade class will board a bus and head for Walcamp, located in Kingston, IL, approximately 75 miles northwest of the school.  The students’ day will begin with a brisk “wake-up” call at 6:30, followed by 7:15 devotions.  The class will be involved in a number of major units throughout the week.  Units include microorganisms, survival, and orienteering.  Their religion unit will bring them closer to their Creator.  A word of thanks and recognition goes to their teachers:  Chuck Haak, Frieda Zemke, Sharon Boos, and Julie Coffey for their willingness to b
