Of all the gifts for which we thank God, above all is the gift of Himself to us, His erring but redeemed children!  Whom have I in Heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides you” (Psalm 73:25).

Our purpose is to reach out to families and individuals of all backgrounds and bring them into healing and transforming relationships with the Lord Jesus and with others in His Church through the sharing of God’s Word and Sacraments.

STEWARDSHIP CORNER.   As God’s stewards, we are called to serve.  As Christians saved by grace, we recognize our need to live a life of servanthood.  “ . . . whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:26-28).  Just as Jesus came to serve, we have the same privilege to serve others through our time, talents, and treasures.  Through out service, we become more like Jesus.

SUNDAY SCHOOL.   In Sunday School, the children learned the story of Peter and Cornelius (Acts 10) and how like them the Good News comes to us. Talk about how in church we receive the Good News that, although we are judged unrighteous and deserving of death, God mercifully declares us holy, righteous, and innocent because of Christ. What does this mean for our daily lives is a good question to discuss as a family.

FROM PASTOR JOHNSON.  “If you are in the hospital or are in need of pastoral care, please notify Maria in the church office.  If it is an emergency, please call my mobile phone (in printed copy of chimes).  Please don’t hesitate to call me at any hour if it is important; I keep the phone with me at all times.  If the matter is important enough to think about calling a pastor, by all means call me.  Please do not think you will disturb me or I will think the matter unimportant.  Thanks!”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

THE CARE CORPS recent bathroom tissue/diaper collection was a huge success, and we wish to thank the congregation for donating these items.  Also much appreciation is extended to the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans-West Cook County-Chicago Chapter for their generous grant of $500 for purchase of these items.  A total of 1008 rolls of bathroom tissue and 1604 diapers were delivered to the Proviso Pantry for distribution to the needy individuals of our area.

CARE CORPS/PROVISO PANTRY.  Please clip the Jewel Shop and Share Identification slip in this week’s Chimes and turn it in as you check out at your local Jewel store when you shop.  The dates when the slip is valid are this Monday – Wednesday,  May 19-21.  a portion of your receipt will go to support the Proviso Pantry, a local food pantry which helps provide food for the needy in our area.  Thank you for caring and sharing!

“OUR CONGREGATIONAL CHAPTER of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans” wishes to thank the many volunteers at St. Paul and also “kick off” the start of the summer season by serving grilled hot dogs at coffee hour next Sunday, May 25th, in the lunchroom immediately following the 9:00 AM service.  We hope that you can join us.

YOUTH GROUP NEWS!!!

§      APPALACHIA is fast approaching!  Thank you to the congregation for all your support and help as we prepare for this trip!  I am still missing 2 prayer partners if anyone would like to still consider that.  Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to be involved in this trip – with 29 participants and each participant having a prayer partner, that is almost 60 people giving their time and energy to being directly involved in this trip, and that, to me, is a testament to the work of the Spirit in this place!  Praise the Lord, St. Paul!   Because of this servant event trip, the youth group will not be here on Sunday, June 15th, but we will have returned by Sunday, June 22nd.  Look for some debriefing and trip excitement to happen that Sunday during coffee hour!

§      BAKE AUCTION The youth group will be hosting our Spring bake auction a little late (chalk it up to the naïve DCE), but it will definitely be here at St. Paul on June 1st!  All funds raised will go toward any expense still needed for the servant event trip, and if there is any excess in funds, that will go towards keeping an active youth account for activities next year!  So get your chocolate chips and truffles ready!  I’m hungry.

§      BBQ today, after Spanish service, the youth are invited to Chris Wachal’s house!  He is hosting a BBQ for us!  Please bring $3 to help with the cost of all the food, and bring any games you want, as well!
