Family information:
Doug is married and has one son, Jason.  Gail, Doug’s wife, is the guidance counselor at Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park and an adjunct professor at Concordia University – Chicago. Jason is a director of counselors for a major social services firm that works with dual-diagnosed individuals. He, too, is an adjunct professor at Concordia University.

Outside of education:
Doug and Gail’s favorite pastime is hiking.  Treks include the Bright Angel Trail in the Grand Canyon, Bryce National Park, The Narrows Trail in Zion National Park, and Death Valley.  When time permits, Doug enjoys being on the links.  His dream is to play a round with Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods…and win the match. (Obviously, this is only a dream.)
His favorite author is J.R.R. Tolkien. There are always new adventures to be found when wandering Middle Earth with Bilbo, Frodo, and Gandalf.
Doug enjoys maintaining the marine aquarium in their living room.  Just observing those beautiful fishes can be so very relaxing.
