Keegan and Rebecca celebrated Midsommar, a traditional Swedish
holiday celebrating the longest day of summer. Keegan made Rebecca a
traditional flower wreath to wear. On Midsommar Swedes dance around the May
pole, have picnics and enjoy the company of their closest family and
friends. We, Keegan
and Rebecca Christ, want to update you on our life and ministry in
Täby, Sweden. Tack så mycket (Thank you so much) for your
emails, encouragement and support. Adjusting to Swedish Life We are adjusting to life in
Sweden, learning the intricacies of Swedish life like how to
type quickly with the additional vowels: ö,å,ä and learning to cook
Swedish meatballs, cream sauce and potatoes. Now that we have received
all our home goods and our car from the States, we are settling into greater
normalcy in daily living. We spend our days improving our Swedish,
setting up office and planning for future ministry. Our favorite, though, is
meeting with kids. We saw the new Harry Potter movie with several kids, played
Sand Volleyball, and had others over for American pancakes. Camp! June
15-23 Young Life Sweden held its annual summer camp at Holsbybrunn, 4
hours south of Stockholm. Upon arriving at camp, the unknown
began. We knew little of what to expect. So, when we were told we
needed to get dressed for a messy activity, we had no idea that would mean an
obstacle course leading us hip deep in mud and climbing over and under
unthinkable messes. Throughout the week we played many more messy
and rowdy games, which all served to build relationship and allow
for deep discussions with the kids in our cabins. Each day at camp
the activities build up to the nights' finale: Club. At Club, we sang fun songs, watched skits,
laughed, and most importantly listened to two Swedes, Marcus and
Staffan, retell the Gospel in ways that the teens connected with.
After Club, we returned to our cabins and discussed what we heard and
connected the days events to Christ's love for us. It was an incredible
week which has opened up many opportunities for us. Praise God for this
awesome gift! |

Malin, Sofie, Rebecca and Sara posed for a picture in their kilts on Scottish night. This is the evening that in Club the speaker spoke about our separation from God. To set the tone of the evening, we had a festival night where the kids earn tickets at a Scottish carnival to get the chance to throw a cream pie in their leader's face. The girls pied me twice. It was an awesome sign because it showed that they felt safe with me, which proved to be important for the talk ahead. In my cabin that night, the girls spoke freely sharing their questions about God. During the week, we became really close and after camp we continued to get together. Pray that the girls desire to start an exploratory Bible study to answer some of their questions. |

In John 15:5, Jesus says," I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." At camp, we were all challenged to do an extreme high ropes course. It was an incredible, though terrifying experience for me (Becka). Throughout the 75 minutes that I was in the course, I prayed and cried uncountable times. After I was down on firm ground again I thought about all the different ways I have been challenged in the past few months. Having only been in Sweden less than 5 days, I was struggling with Jet lag, I was overwhelmed by constant Swedish and wondering if and when I would understand, and uncertain of what was going to happen with my Grandma's brain surgery. As I thought about it, I realized I was crying about more than just a fear of heights but of a fear of letting go of control. This incredible experience humbled me to the point where I could see that God was in control, I can do nothing here in Sweden on my own account. It is all Him. |
