Thank you!  Your on-going prayers and support is very significant!  Through your efforts, we are able to share the Gospel with many!

God used this landscape to remind us that even in a country where trusting God is seen as foolishness, God reigns!  Light permeates darkness! 1 John 1:5 "This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you: God is light; in Him there is no darkness at all."

 Training for Success!

  1. Model quality leadership.
  2. Instruct on knowing your audience and how to be effective.
  3. Provide real opportunities to try out what has been learned. Allow new leaders to fail. But, be there to help if they ask for it.  Encourage and discuss what they learned and how they can improve.
  4. Trust your leaders and continue to mentor them as they grow.

Our personal goal is to work ourselves out of a job. This may sound funny coming from missionaries, but it means that we have been called to equip Swedes to do lifelong outreach.  So many teens here have not had a chance to hear of Christ’s love for them. They need caring adults who will invest in them and share that their relationship with Christ is worth the persecution that comes with being a Christian today in Sweden

You might be asking yourself how we work ourselves out of a job. We start by learning the needs here in Sweden.  We meet with pastors, teachers, parents, adults and learn. By committing ourselves to growing as leaders, we gradually earn the right to lead. Then we mentor and train leaders one at a time.  Right now, we are each pouring into a Swede.  Keegan works alongside Tobias, a 26 year old who desires to reach out to lost kids. Rebecca is working with Camilla, an 18 year  old who has a heart for Jesus and wants to serve.

Recently we attended Willow Creek’s Global Leadership Summit in Stockholm.  In a seminar where  Bill Hybels interviewed former HP CEO, Carly Fiorina, she said, “Leadership is seeing potential in others that they may not see in themselves.” After rooming with Camilla at camp, I saw a lot of potential in her. So, I invited her to join me in reaching out to a group of junior high girls.  As I plan each Bible study for the girls, I talk with Camilla about how and why I plan.  It takes a lot longer to mentor someone than it does to plan on my own, but I am developing a leader!

Earning the Right to Be Heard

In relationships: After baking cookies, giggling and watching movies at a slumber party for Junior high aged girls last week, 5 girls decided they want to start a group to study the Bible and to become better friends.  Becka will disciple them in how to walk with Christ daily.
Through Exploratory Studies: Keegan is starting a group for guys who are not sure what they believe about God.  By watching movies and discussing them in context to God, Keegan will share how Christ changed his life.

Through Events: Young Life Täby is hosting several large Clubs this fall.  Club is an opportunity for Christian kids to bring their un-churched friends to hear about Christ in a non-threatening, fun way.  Our first Club of the year will have a SPY theme! Keegan and Becka are are each heading up a planning team for these events, please keep our teams in your prayers.
Through Listening: We are spending time each week exploring Vallentuna, the town where we are working with the local churches to plant outreach.  We are meeting all the local youth workers, pastors, and school administrators.  Our immediate goal is to develop a local team to create vision for what Young Life ministry needs to look like here and to meet regularly to pray for the community.

Through Langauge: We are spending four hours each day in language school to improve our Swedish.  Though most Swedes speak English fluently, It is very important aspect of truly connecting with kids.  Already we have seen the impact our efforts have made in our relationships.  Teens are opening up more and more as we can communicate  better in their language.

We'd love to here from you. Call us on our USA # 815 315 0227. We are 7 hours ahead of CST.  Feel free to call us until 11pm our time!

Please Pray For:

  • Our Swedish to continue to improve rapidly.
  • For Elin, Johanna, Linnea, Sara, and Victoria from Becka’s small group.
  • Keegan and Tobias to connect with the guys in the exploratory Bible study group.
  • For wisdom as we look for a team of Swedes to seek God’s wisdom together in planting outreach in Vallentuna.
  • For additional funding so we can continue to do ministry here until God calls us elsewhere. (We anticipate planting new outreach ministry will take at least 3 years).

Please let us know how we can pray for and support you.  E-mail requests to: Rebecca(atsymbol)younglife.se*
