As I sit down to write this evening I am feeling so many things...

  • I am so GLAD to finally have carved out time to sit and share a few of the many incredible experiences we have had and how God is at work in Vallentuna, Sweden.
  • I feel badly and apologize that it has been so long since our last newsletter.  It has been a ministry packed 2.5 months and I regret not having been able to share immediately with you how God has used you to touch lives.
  • At the same time I am humbled by your ongoing generosity and the depth of God's ability to provide. Despite the dollar dropping to its all time low here in Sweden, we still have all our physical needs met. Thank you so much for continuing to support our ministry and reaching out to Swedish kids who have few, if any, chances to hear about Jesus Christ.
  • I am also exhausted and emotional and thankful that as I write this I know I am writing to my friends who truly care.

Högstadiet Tjejer Grupp (Junior High Girl's Group)

Every Monday, I continue to meet with my girls' group to study the Bible and grow together as we grow closer to Christ.  Between 4-6 girls come every week. We share about our week over Fika, I lead a Bible study and we pray together. Some really exciting news is that Elin (left) was baptized and gave her life to Christ two weeks ago.  The next day, I challenged Elin and Camilla (middle left) to begin a 90 day challenge with me to read the Bible every day for the next 90. They were excited for the challenge to grow even closer to Christ.  Jelina (2nd to left) is the newest addition to our group. She opened up to me last week after group and shared that she is not sure if she believes in God. She asked some deep searching questions and invited me to help her as she discovers the answers.  It is an exciting step in our friendship!

Gym och Sim (Gym and Swim/ Health Club)

Our Gym has turned out to be a great place to meet kids! We go to Vallentuna Gim och Sim 4 times each week and we continue to run into the same kids.  Both Keegan and I spend our free time lifting weights and doing cardio thinking of ways we can talk to the kids we see.  Lately, there have been the same 8 high school aged boys that Keegan has attempted to say hi to. Please pray for these yet to be developed relationships.

 Junior High School

This schools is one of the more troubled schools in Vallentuna and really needs our help in connecting with students. After recent developments, we hope that we will soon be able to volunteer regularly there as "studiekamarater" or study friends/ mentors.  This all came in a God inspired way after many months of prayer towards how to gain access into the extremely secular schools. I asked a friend (who happens be to be a teacher here and a mom to a junior high student) if I could live with her family for a week to practice my Swedish.  She was glad to help and then her kids invited me to come to classes with them for the day.  Their teachers ok'd it and it ended up being an incredible opportunity.  I had no idea that by staying with this family I would be able to get my foot in the door at this school. One particularly cool experience from the day was getting to meet Thomas.  He was sleeping to my left during his social studies class. After class, I stayed to speak with the teacher and thanking him for allowing me to come and he asked why I am in Sweden. I explained our passion for teenagers and he explained how needy his students were. He began to talk about Thomas's story and share the role we might be able to have in his life and others'.

Training Day

The church youth board asked us to lead a training day on how to create space and opportunities to share the Gospel with kids ages 8-13.  This training day was a tangible example of how we can encourage and support the local church in Sweden and help them to grow.

Please Pray For:

  •  My (Becka's) relationship with Jelina. That we would be able to talk openly and that God would help me to articulate His great love to her in a way she understands. Also for Camilla and Elin to continue to grow in their relationship with Christ.
  • Our new relatioship with the school and especially conversations with Maria, the principal.
  • Göran and Helena to consider volunteering with us as leaders or to serve on Committee.
  • Our preparations for Camp, that it would be an incredible chance for us to share Christ love in a deep, non-threatening way with the kids we are meeting. (Especially right now for the kids we are still hoping will come: Mimi, Isabel, Richard, Saba, and those we may have just met that God may be leading us to ask.)
  • New sources of funding.
