Young Life Sweden

Dear Friends,
As I began to prepare today's newsletter, I was greatly humbled to learn that my last communication with you was back in February.  I am sorry that we have let so much time go by without sharing the awesome ways God is at work.  We couldn't do this without you and I have not treated you as such.  I have gotten caught up in the doing and in being a new mom and have not made time for the important work of keeping you connected to ministry here.  Please accept my apologies. We thank you for being faithful even when we may have seemed distant.  Becka
So, what have we been up to?

Kid Work has been going awesome.  Playing Nintendo Wii, Frisbee Golf, Rock Climbing, Attending Muscials, and helping out in classrooms are all some of the ways that we have gotten to know kids and earned their trust.  "If they do not know we care, they don't care what we know" about Jesus or anything else.

Leaders is an area where we can use prayer as we need more leaders to reach the number of kids we are meeting.  We are beginning to ask older adults to join our team this summer (crossing a cultural barrier) and hope to begin a new leader training in the fall.  Rebecka, who has been a huge asset to our team, has felt called to do a year-long internship with Young Life in Madison, Wisconsin where she will get the opportunity to experience a Young Life team that is further along then we are here in Vallentuna.  She has the desire to use her internship to develop key skills that she can then come back and help establish ministry in Sweden.

Developing a Committee--Exciting stuff here! The Stodgrupp (support group) is taking ownership and getting involved in practical ministry needs.  They are considering how they might help raise money and have looked into doing a rummage sale. They are also helping strategize ways to promote Young Life in the area.  Their most important work is PRAYING, for which they created a prayer strategy to take it more seriously.  Pictured below are stodgrupp members Janne and Anneli. They will be our head leaders at camp, where their primary role is to support the leaders and PRAY all week.

Summer Camp is June 13-18. So far 11 Vallentuna kids are going! This past weekend we led 17 leaders from around Sweden in learning how to move a relationship from casual conversations and having fun together to talking about the person of Jesus Christ and his meaning in our lives.  It was inspiring to see leaders wrestle with how to do this well.

Raising Sofia is challenging, especially at bed time and when teething; she now has 2 teeth.  Sofia opens more doors to meeting people than we could have expected.  Teenagers, even the boys, are intrigued by her. She is definitely part of our ministry team.

John 15:7 "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you."

A consistent prayer of ours is to meet kids and spend time with them.  At times these seem impossible.  There are days when I am out of ideas, energy and confidence.  That's the state I was in a few weeks ago, when I got an unexpected invitation from my young friend Andreas asking me if I wanted to go climbing with him and some others the next morning.  It was a welcome jolt of energy and a reminder that there is something much bigger than me at work here in Sweden.  At work is a God who goes to incredible lengths to reach his children, inspite of my lack of energy, trust, creativity and confidence. It is God who still wants to uniquely use you and me inspite of ourselves.  He does not ask me to do all the work.  He asks me to remain in relationship with Him.

Of course I jumped at the ready-made opportunity to go and share an experience together with my friends.   It was a great five hours together where I was able to get to know them better.  We built trust in each other and encouraged each other as we took on seeming impossible feats, tackling higher and more difficult routes one after the other.  I also took advantage of our time together to further invite them to come to camp, at which they responded, "själv klart!"  (Of course!)

Thank you again for joining us in reaching kids with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
In Him, Keegan, Becka and Sofia Christ
